Structure

The National Archives of Iceland is divided into the following departments:

  • Administration and Finance. This department is in charge of financial administration, personnel management and daily running of the office and premises.
  • Department of Acquisition and Preservation. This department gives advice on and supervises records management in government departments, receives new accessions of materials, receives electronic data from state bodies, catalogues materials and sees to their conservation.
  • IT and Public Service. This department is in charge of the archives' computer and information systems in the broadest sense of the word. lt handles publications, both in print and online and is in charge of services to users, including facilities in the Reading Room, copying and assistance to researchers.

The National Archives of Iceland also supervises the teaching of archival sciences in collaboration with the University of Iceland and carries out research of archives and research for special projects like the National Territory Committee.
